Before you render in Manly

What changes a rendering job here, each from the council plan, heritage register or data sheet it comes from.

  1. Heritage

Pittwater Road and Town Centre conservation areas

Two heritage conservation areas take in part of Manly's housing land: the Pittwater Road Conservation Area (C1) and the Town Centre Conservation Area (C2). Re-rendering or repainting a building inside them needs council consent, and the Manly DCP says original face brickwork is not to be rendered or painted; if it already has been, Council wants it restored where practical.

For your render: We check your address against these rules before quoting, so the render, finish and colour suit what the council allows there. Cement rendering

  2. Houses

    Row houses and semi-detached cottages

Manly LEP 2013 lists many heritage items in the suburb, among them row houses, pairs of semi-detached cottages and flat buildings. Rendering or painting one of those facades is not exempt work, even outside the conservation areas.

Source: NSW Planning Portal heritage map layer (LEP Schedule 5)

  3. Council

    Foreshore scenic protection

Most of Manly's housing land is in the Foreshore Scenic Protection Area. Any facade work that needs a DA there must use non-reflective materials in colours and textures that blend with the natural setting.

  4. Coast

    Surf-side upkeep

Most of Manly's housing is within 1 km of breaking surf at Manly, North Steyne and Queenscliff beaches, and render that close to the sea needs more upkeep: Rockcote asks for its systems to be washed down every 12 months, and painted or textured coastal finishes more often. For polystyrene cladding in that zone, Unitex specifies Class 4 or 316 stainless fixing screws.

  • “Very professional and so helpful! Good communication and a fair price! Arrived nice and early! The rendering was done very well and looks great. The boys were very careful and made no mess! I have no hesitation in recommending Ali and his workers! I am definitely a very happy customer! Job: rear of house rendering plus a variety of rendering repairs in various places! Thank you so much!”
    ★★★★★Gregory Williams ·
  • “We loved dealing with Ali and his team. They are all lovely and really good renderers. We wanted something a little different (a thickly applied splattered style) in some parts of the house,”bagged” in other areas and smooth render in other parts…all was no problem, and expertly done. All fairly priced too. We would definitely recommend Finishing Touch Rendering. Stephanie and David.”
