Mosman's conservation areas include Bradleys Head Road, Glover and Nathan's Estates and Holt Estate. Their DCP controls say 'Do not paint face brickwork', and Holt Estate's main change is painting brick that was never meant to be painted.

Houses
Rendered Federation brick is a defect
Mosman's DCP ranks buildings with cement rendering on Federation or Inter-war brick as altered, and the aim for them is to reconstruct original features. Where render is right for the style, it must match it: roughcast, pebble dash or smooth.

Coast
Foreshore salt and upkeep
Much of Mosman's foreshore is within 100 m of harbour water. Render there needs more upkeep than inland: Rockcote asks for its systems to be cleaned down every 12 months, and painted or textured finishes near the coast more often. For EPS cladding, Unitex requires Class 4 or 316 stainless fixings that close to salt water.
