Rendering in Balmain

Balmain's DCP treats sandstone, render and bagged masonry as traditional finishes, so re-bagging fits; its conservation areas keep face brick bare. Cement and acrylic rendering in Balmain, with a free quote.

Before you render in Balmain

What changes a rendering job here, each from the council plan, heritage register or data sheet it comes from.

  1. Heritage

    Conservation areas across the suburb

Most of Balmain is in The Valley, Iron Cove, Balmain East, Waterview Estate or Town of Waterview conservation areas. Under the Leichhardt DCP, original face brick there should not be painted over or rendered, so most external finish changes need consent.

For your render: We check your address against these rules before quoting, so the render, finish and colour suit what the council allows there. Cement rendering

  2. Houses

Render and bagging are the traditional finish

The Balmain East neighbourhood controls list shaped sandstone, painted timber and rendered or bagged masonry as the appropriate materials, and the adjoining neighbourhood controls ask for unpainted stone. Repairing or re-bagging existing render is in keeping; painting sandstone is not.

  3. Coast

    Harbour air and upkeep

On Balmain's harbour-front blocks, within 100 metres of the water, render needs more upkeep: Rockcote asks for its systems to be washed down every 12 months, and painted or textured finishes close to the coast more often. For polystyrene cladding there, Unitex specifies Class 4 or 316 stainless fixing screws.

  • “Very professional and so helpful! Good communication and a fair price! Arrived nice and early! The rendering was done very well and looks great. The boys were very careful and made no mess! I have no hesitation in recommending Ali and his workers! I am definitely a very happy customer! Job: rear of house rendering plus a variety of rendering repairs in various places! Thank you so much!”
    ★★★★★Gregory Williams ·
  • “We loved dealing with Ali and his team. They are all lovely and really good renderers. We wanted something a little different (a thickly applied splattered style) in some parts of the house,”bagged” in other areas and smooth render in other parts…all was no problem, and expertly done. All fairly priced too. We would definitely recommend Finishing Touch Rendering. Stephanie and David.”
